Travel does requires money especially when your destination is so far away from where you live. You need money to book a flight, accommodation, foods, and transport. There are alternatives you can choose to save money for your trip. For example, choose travel style that is less money-consuming. You can go backpacking and stick to your budget without reducing the experience of the travel itself.

Planning a trip must be excitement but you need to think more rationally if you want to stay in budget. Sometimes your excitement clouds your judgement that you carelessly your hard-earned money to something unimportant. These are pre-travel expenses that you should consider when planning for your trip:

A backpack is essential for backpacking. For smooth travel, you need  sturdy, spacious, durable, and comfortable backpack. This can be one of your expensive purchase. Well you can borrow one to your friend who is a frequent backpacker. But what if you want to go backpacking next time? You still have to buy it. Invest in good backpack that you can wear for a long time. Choose the one that can be your company for years.

Vaccination can cost a lot too but is important for your own health and safety during the trip. Getting sick on your travel is not fun at all especially when it is a serious disease that attack you. Hence, get your shot if you plan to visit a country with high risks of specific illness. Do not skip this because it can be your lifeline. 

Supplies and toiletries are also your pre-travel expenses that can be quite costly. However, you don’t have to go overboard and bring what you really need. Just buy travel-sized items that will last for the duration of your trip. Or, you can also use the ones provided by your hotel or hostel. You can just bring the essentials you need such as  face wash, sunscreen, etc. 

Visa needs to be considered especially if you plan to visit a country that requires it. Visa is not that costly but you still have to include it in your budget plan. Always prepare your money for visa. It is also the same with passport and photos. They can be costly and you need to consider the expense in your pre-trip budget plan. Your passport needs to be valid for at least  months after return from the trip. If you are careless about your passport, there is a risk of you getting in trouble in the immigration. 

Travel insurance is important especially if you are frequent traveler. It is also included into pre-travel expenses to consider. Keep in mind that travel can be unpredictable. You don’t know when bad luck will hit you during the trip. A trip to unfamiliar place puts your body in more vulnerable position and risk of getting hurt or injured. If you have travel insurance, you don’t have to think of the medical expenses to be taken care of well.
